Objectives
- Have the benefit of an international experience and learn about Latin American culture, without technically leaving the U.S.
- Engage our peers in a meaningful dialogue on 4-H youth development and Citizenship Programs
- Learn about the lifestyles of youth in other cultures
- Learn about environmental sciences through exploration of a variety of tropical ecosystems
This exciting opportunity has come about as a result of discussions with the State 4-H Leader in Puerto Rico .
In an effort to provide 4-H youth with a truly “international experience” without technically leaving the U.S. , we are planning a trip to the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico , which is a U.S. territory.
How to Apply
We are seeking a maximum of sixteen 4-H'ers.
Interested 4-H'ers must fill out an application. Click here to download application.
Signed applications should be returned to Jeff Buckley at the State 4-H Office by the above deadline.
The application process will favor youth who have been active and engaged in 4-H activities and express an interest in environmental and cultural learning.
This will be a physically demanding trip, requiring youth to live and travel in close quarters. Participants should be able to handle unfamiliar situations and rustic conditions while maintaining a positive attitude.
Adult Chaperones
We are seeking one to two adult, chaperones.
At this point, we do not have funds to pay for adult chaperones. With that in mind, priority will be given to applicants who have a solid application and can provide for their own expenses. We are looking for ways to help cover costs, but we cannot make any guarantees.
Interested Adult Leaders must fill out an application. Click here to download application.
We will provide additional details as they develop.
